A Very Pleasant Stay 45
We took a mid-week 'winter warmer' break in the cottage apartment 'Blencathra' It was everything we needed. Reasonably spacious, spotlessly clean and warm. The living areas are on the first floor with bedrooms beneath. This gave really enjoyable views from the living area to the fells in the distance and Blencathra nearby. The location is good as it is just off the A66 Penrith to Keswick road. There are also numerous small country lanes for a quieter drive. Walking in the area has endless possibilities. The Troutbeck Inn itself which is seconds away from the apartment is very pleasant and is very atmospheric. The food was an excellent standard but there were no options for main courses less than £14, so whilst very good value, you had to be prepared for quite an outlay if eating there in a family group. Overall - very good and highly recommended. We will definitely return.

Fantastic Break 55
We stayed in the one bedroom cottage for five nights and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The cottage was very comfortable and dog friendly, which was a must for us as we have a Wolfhound and a small terrier. The owner was very friendly and quite apologetic that the weather was at times awful, but this did not hinder us in anyway, if you come to the Lakes you must be ready for rain!!! We had several meals which we ordered at the pub and had delivered to our door, these were all delicious and again we thoroughly enjoyed them. I would recommend this cottage to anyone and we shall very definately stay here again when we return to this beautiful part of the world.

Enjoyed Our Stay 45
The accommodation and food was very good. We had a three course meal, each course was well cooked and presented. The prawns were beautifully tender and HUGE. One small point we weren't happy with. Room 2 was directly across the road from a bungalow, the windows of which looked straight in to our room. A venitian blind or net of some sort would solve this problem. We didn't want to close the curtain on the view, but for the sake of privacy it was necessary.

We stayed here for one night on route to Scotland from the South Coast.
When booked over the internet, it is always a risk about what you are going to find on arrival.

All our uncertainties were totally unfounded and we found everything about the Troutbeck as we wqould have wishes.

The room was spacious, very clean and nice and warm. The en-suite was similar and the whole inn was of a high standard.

We had dinner and breakfast in the inn and both were of a high quaslity and brought only positive comments.

We moved on very satisfied with our stay and thank all for that.

We booked the Troutbeck Inn from a search online for dog friendly hotels as we wanted to break our journey from Scotland in Cumbria. The inn was warm and friendly, good room which had comfy bed , was quiet and had everything we needed. Shower was a bit pathetic but this may be water pressure problem. We had a meal at the Inn in the evening which was very good, great menu but quite expensive but the ambiance was good and seems popular with locals as well as guests. Breakfast was lovely, great choice of hot and cold food, perfectly cooked. All in all a great place to stay.

We visited the Troutbeck Inn for 2 nights, was a little unsure whether we would hear the busy road behind the hotel, but were very pleased to find you couldn't hear it at all. The rooms were quiet and comfortable and the views were glorious from the bedroom windows. The bar and restaurant areas were cosy and welcoming with a lovely ambience which included candles on all the tables. The food was the best part of the stay, the evening meals in the restaurant were excellent quality not your average pub grub!! Troutbeck Inn 45
Spent a lovely 8 days staying in the Saddleback Cottage. Very relaxing with fantastic views from the upstairs lounge. No problem at all with having our 2 border collies indoors with us which made things a whole lot easier. Dined at the Inn 6 nights out of the 8 and the food was fantastic. The portions were very generous and well presented. As a veggie, there was only the 1 choice on the menu but hey no problem, the chef immediately came up with a whole list of options for me, all of which were superb. The Inn does get very very busy at the weekend so please book in advance to avoid disappointment. What would I have liked to have taken home from the lake district? Easily, the chef from the Troutbeck! Hope to visit again some time in the future.

The Inn is decorated and furnished in keeping with the age and nature of the building without being old-fashioned or dated.
Our room was spacious and very comfortable and clean.
The food in the restaurant is superb. The hearty breakfast set us up for the day and our evening meal was delicious.
The only problem we had was that the tea/coffee tray was on top of the combination dresser/wardrobe which meant that pouring boiling water was difficult and a bit risky, so we had to move the kettle to the bedside table.
The owner and staff are pleasant and helpful, but maybe the barman, whilst very polite, could smile a bit more! - especially when first welcoming guests.

An excellent stay in a comfortable cottage. It was good to stay in a place that welcomes dogs!

We enjoy cooking so our only minor quibble was the apparent lack of some kitchen equipment (eg scales), though we maybe just didn't look hard enough.

For dog owners... Walking from the cottage is a bit limited (along roads mostly) but a mile or so along the road to Ullswater, you can walk dogs in the Forestry area (entrance just beyond the 2nd caravan site).

If we were to be picky we would say the showers could do with being a bit more vigorous and a few more smiles from the otherwise helpful and polite staff would have added a little extra to the visit. My husband and I have just spent an enjoyable two night stay. We selected this hotel because of their pet policy and could not fault their services, we had a clean comfortable room and thoroughly enjoyed our two evening meals in the bar. We would recommend the Inn, especially people with pets.

Blencathra 55
Accommodation was very good and exactly what we wanted. We had a very enjoyable stay as the cottage is in easy reach of the Lakes and towns we wanted to visit. The food in the pub is excellent. I would recommend staying here. We would stay at Blencathra again.

Easter Break 55
I selected the Troutbeck Inn purely on the basis that they are 'dogfriendly', the Inn is well maintained and beautifully clean, the rooms are comfortable and have everything I needed, the service is friendly but professional and the food exceptional. I will certainly return

Fab - Highly Recommended 55
We came with another couple for a treat between Christmas and New Year, we had a fab night. The bar area is very cosy but smart - I was so content watching the fire, I could have slept there! The food, wine, beer choice and service all excellent and the same excellence continued with breakfast. We would recommend to anybody and are looking forward to going again. Plenty to do nearby too.

A Happy New Year! 55
OK, the weather could have been better. Hillfog and strong winds kept us off the summit of Skiddaw, and cold and cloud dimmed the Lake District's glories. It was still fantastic: beautiful mountains, easily accessible from the inn, and sumptuous dinners when we returned from walking on the fells. High recommended!

Excellent Food And Accommodation 45
Very nice cottage, very spacious...bed really comfortable!! The food was excellent!!

We had a bit of a problem with the water...the main cause, we believe, was the boiler. The water was hot for a few seconds and then cold ...and so on.

Staff very nice, helpful and friendly! Acted immediately when we complained about the water.

If it was not for the water I would have definitely rate this with 5 starts!!!

Stayed in 2 bed cottage with 2 dogs. Plenty of room for us all in the cottage. Welcome pack was far more than expected, tea, coffee, milk, biscuits. Excellent food best we have had for this type of break. Very good location for all of the northern lakes. We recommend and will be returning.

Three Night Stay With Dog Dec 2010 45
Had a lovely three night stay. The food here is out of this world. Each meal we had was hot, fantastically tasty and a very pleasing amount. We stayed here with our dog as well. The Inn is ideally situated and we had several good walks. The double room was more than adequate. The only negative thing to say is that it would have been nice to have an open fire in the bar area (there is one in the restarant but we were unable to sit there due to having a dog). Some low music would help the atmostphere and the shower needs updating. Would recommend this Inn, especially for the outstanding food.

The 40 Year Treat 45
Had a lovely night stopping at the hotel whilst the rest of the family stayed in one of the cottages as they were staying longer. The room was very nice but there were a couple of things that could be improved on, there was no heating in the en-suite and the shower wasn't brilliant, however, this did not in any way spoil our stay as there was an extra heater in the room and I was able to dodge from under the shower when the water went cold!! If you like good food can certainly recommend it, it was fabulous, both breakfast and dinner. The staff were lovely and the log fire in the bar was wonderful, very comforting and cosy. Keswick isn't far and well worth a visit. Well worth a stay and will definitely go again.
